Nicole is a Sophomore Electrical Engineering major from Baytown, Texas and a NUGI this semester! She recently represented LHS in Texas THON's 24-hour Dance Marathon to raise money for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, and we are so proud of her! Beyond LHS, Nicole is involved in Texas Sweethearts, Concert Chorale, and SEEK (Student Engineers Educating Kids). We love you, Nicole!
Describe your favorite musical experience.
The coolest musical experience I've ever been a part of was when Concert Chorale was asked to be the chorus for one of Butler's operas, The Magic Flute. All we did was stay up high in the balcony and sing at different times throughout the opera but it was really interesting to be able to watch the opera from a different point of view. It was also just really cool to be a part of something totally different from the normal ensemble settings we were used to. I'm not a music major so being able to participate in things like that is really rare but also so amazing and fulfilling. I'm definitely never going to forget that experience.
Is there anyone in LHS you would like to give a shoutout to? Why?
First, I have to give a huugggee shoutout to Alessio! He was the first person I got to close to in Concert Chorale freshman year because we had a math class together! He was also the reason I tried out for LHS this semester. He's one of my closest friends and I really can't imagine being at UT without him! Also, shoutout to my NUGI class and my fam and honestly... everyone in LHS because I love them all so much (-:
What is it that you are most proud of right now?
Right now I'm most proud of my close friends. I think my friends are some of the smartest and most talented people I've ever met. Plus, they're all just doing really well in life which makes me even more proud. I love that I go to a school like UT that allowed me to meet so many diverse people from all different majors. I'm so so so proud that I get to say that I know future engineers, lawyers, doctors, musicians, etc who are just doing what they love. They push me to be better in life and school, and they mean so much to me because of that.
What is your favorite personal Longhorn Singers memory?
I think it would have to be getting ready for my NUGI show. All of the NUGIs and I spent a lot of time together that day and I think it really helped us bond and get to know each other better. There was this moment when we all started playing the songs we auditioned on and we just sang along and had fun. I think what made me love that day, even more, is that even though we all came from totally different backgrounds and majors, we were brought together by a love of music. We all kind of instantly got along because of that.
Welcome to the official Longhorn Singers blog!
